If you are calling about a specific death investigation, contact the Regional Medical Examiner for the county in which the person was pronounced dead.
In New Jersey, when a person’s death is unexpected and the cause of death is not immediately known, the death is investigated by a medical examiner. Medical examiners also investigate deaths resulting from violence or injury and deaths that occured while the deceased was in legal custody.
The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner is responsible for the operation of the entire medical examiner system in New Jersey.
